This walk explores the Science precinct of the University of Sydney, where buildings date from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The University of Sydney was inaugurated in 1852 and located in College St until the main building on the current location, close to Parramatta Rd, was able to be occupied in 1859. The area behind the Great Hall, now Science Road, was gradually developed from the 1880s, and an entrance to the University from Parramatta Road was created in 1910–12, providing access to the area of the university that was by this time dedicated to Science. This is the area we are going to explore in this Walk.
